Barbecue, relaxing in the waters of the Gulf, children’s laughter, and fireworks—these are some of our favorite things, and come July 4th every year, our favorite celebration encompasses them all! Fourth of July is coming, and no one does it better than St. Augustine, our nation’s oldest city! If you’re in St. Augustine over the 4th, we don’t dilute the fun factor by celebrating in many places spread out all over the city; you get the full shebang with one gigantic party—our annual Fireworks Over the Matanzas celebration!
Bigger Than Any Other
St. Augustine’s biggest party of the year starts at 6 PM on the 4th of July and yes, parking will be a bear, so if you are staying in one of our Ocean Gallery vacation rentals, give us a call and we can help you find a place to rent bikes for your family and not have to fight for parking. If you’re too far away, why not arrive earlier in the day, stake your parking spot, and spend the afternoon exploring the stores, museums, and galleries downtown and discover the magic that is St. Augustine. Don’t forget to bring a blanket or chair and a cooler so you can have a picnic; there’s nothing like a great picnic on the fourth of July!
Staking Your Spot
The best places to view this amazing display is the lawn of the Fort. Portable bathrooms are located here and we all know how important that is! Some of our local restaurants will actually be offering rooftop dinners that include food, drinks, and unparalleled views of the display. You’re not going to find a better place for a romantic night a deux, but spots are limited, so make reservations early.
For $40 dollars you can climb to the top of our historic St. Augustine Lighthouse and enjoy two shows for the price of one: a breathtaking Florida sunset and a fireworks extravaganza. This romantic spot has limited space as well, so again, make your reservations early!
The Fireworks
Starting at 9:30 PM, the spectacular fireworks show lasts 20 minutes and will be accompanied by music you can hear no matter where you are sitting. We know how to throw a party and understand that half the thrill of fireworks is the music that goes along with the booms and explosions of a really great show!
