Things to Do

It’s worldly, authentic, and deeply historic. St. Augustine has become one of the state’s top destinations, and it is continuing to grow tremendously every year.

St. Augustine is the oldest city in the country. Dubbed “the ancient city,” it is home to wild wonders from centuries prior, many long-standing dining establishments, and more attractions than you could possibly visit on a single trip.

There’s something for everybody to love, from family-friendly museums, ancient war attractions and landmarks for historians, and some gorgeous vistas in popular places.

You can’t miss out on the giant fort resting along the Matanzas River. The Castillo de San Marcos rests on a huge open field. This 17th-century fort is open to tours. Get a glimpse at a rich history that shaped St. Augustine and, frankly, the entire country. Cannon demonstrations occur daily.

The Alligator Farm is the quintessential event for families. Visitors can zip line over gators, get up close and personal with some creepy crawlers, and watch as an alligator is fed its afternoon meal.

The St. Augustine Pirate and Treasure Museum embraces the rich pirate history that exudes over the city. The museum contains one of the only authenticated and proven pirate treasure chests ever discovered. Get a guided tour through the rooms and gaze at authentic pirate artifacts and items collected through the decades.

Ripley’s, Believe it or Not, is a fun stop for all the oddities throughout history. It’s a bizarre look at the underbelly of human culture, from the tallest to the oldest, rarest to the most puzzling.

Take an afternoon stop over to the Old Jail for a look at this fascinating part of history. Take a gander over at the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse in the country. Of course, you can always cruise and stop in the many shops on and around the iconic St. George Street, which runs right through the heart of the city’s center.

There are many historically-dense and fascinating pieces of America right within the city limits of St. Augustine. Come on over for your next vacation.
