The Amphitheatre is within walking distance of the park, meaning that you can see spectacular natural scenery while enjoying high-quality entertainment.

The History of the Amphitheatre

st Augustine amphitheater

In 1965, the outdoor Amphitheatre was built on 16 acres of Anastasia State Park in honor of St. Augustine’s 400th Anniversary. As an additional commemoration, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green was commissioned to create Cross and Sword, a play released that year depicting the founding of St. Augustine. The play became the official state play of Florida and was recognized by the state legislature for its cultural and historical value before ending its 32-year run in 1996.

St. John’s County acquired the Amphitheatre in 2002 and began the 5-year renovation process that resulted in the Amphitheatre’s current status today as a state-of-the-art venue that holds up to 4,100 concert-goers. It is a great place to do something fun on vacation!

If tickets are available, they may be purchased at the box office on the day of the show. On show days, the gates usually open 90 minutes prior to the show time printed on your ticket. It is recommended that you arrive at least 1 hour prior to show time to give yourself enough time to reach the Amphitheatre, go through the process of checking in, and find your seat.

Children under the age of 2 years-old generally will not require a separate seat purchase provided that parents keep them on their lap. All parents with children requiring their own seat will need to purchase a ticket to accommodate their needs.

Parking costs $10.00, and is available both on-site and off-site at R.B. Hunt Elementary School. The Amphitheatre also provides a shuttle, which stops behind the school on show days. Signs will indicate where the shuttle stops are located.
