Girls’ Getaway in St. Augustine

A girls’ trip is an excellent way for every woman to kick back and relax. Whether you’re a career woman, a mom, or both, time off with your ladies is necessary. You get to hang out with girlfriends from past and present, near and far, all while experiencing a new place.

St. Augustine is the perfect place to step away from the hustle and bustle of life and take a breath of fresh air. As America’s oldest town, it’s unique, fun, and relaxing.

Check out these attractions in St. Augustine, where you’ll make new memories with the girls.

Colonial Quarters

Colonial Quarters is a time capsule of history in St. Augustine. At this interactive historical sight, you can learn about blacksmithing, see a live musket demonstration, climb the 35-foot watch tower overlooking the St. Augustine bayfront, or take a stroll along the St. Augustine Boardwalk and see a historical flag demonstration. After perusing the quarters, have some lunch at one of the restaurants in the area while taking in the view of the historic St. George Street and listening to live music at the largest outdoor venue in St. Augustine.

Lightner Museum

The Lightner Museum, originally built in 1888 as a residence, is housed in a Gilded Age resort—the Alcazar Hotel. It was also built as part of the Spanish Renaissance Revival. It is a trifecta of architecture, history, and modern art. Tours here are self-guided, so you can enjoy the museum at your own pace. Take in the ambiance of Lightner’s lush terrace and courtyard, which have been recently renovated. Enjoy an elegant lunch after your tour at Café Alcazar, where the resort pool once was. You might also catch some of their upcoming events like an evening in the courtyard or yoga in one of the family gardens.

Villa Zorayda Museum

This museum was initially built as a residence but eventually became a place to teach people about different cultures. View the museum’s architecture and art pieces that have also served as a club, restaurant, casino, and speakeasy over the years. The museum was designed with Gilded Age influences and architecture from Granada, Spain, during the Moorish Spanish Revival. One of their most discussed pieces on display is the “Sacred Cat Rug,” over 2,400 years old and made from the hairs of ancient cats roaming the Nile River! The tours here are self-guided with handheld audio devices to inform you along the way. If you’re in St. Augustine during the winter holidays, you can participate in a candlelight tour of the museum and their grand Christmas tree lighting.

St. Augustine Lighthouse

The Lighthouse is a Maritime Museum that offers guided tours and exhibitions. Daily demos include information about the lighthouse, boat building, and maritime archaeology. You can also get some exercise climbing the 219 steps to the top of the lighthouse! You can add on a few extras if the main attractions aren’t enough to pique your interest. The lighthouse is also one of the most haunted locations in St. Augustine! Take the Dark of the Moon tour to see the lighthouse in candlelight or hear about the history and hauntings experienced there.

Salt Spa St. Augustine

After touring the city and discovering its history, it’s time to wind down your afternoon at the first Salt Therapy spa in Florida. Its ideology is centered around the historical practices of using salt for therapeutic purposes, which began in Poland. Here, you can experience an Ultimate Rejuvenating facial that includes exfoliation with organic salt water or get a massage and add on Himalayan salt stones to deepen your treatment. Take your relaxation and therapeutic healing to the next level with a salt cave, salt float tank, or infrared sauna session. At Salt Spa St. Augustine, they have delved deep into the benefits of using salt for therapeutic purposes.
