Best Taco Spots in the Ancient City

St. Augustine may be known for its beaches by the tens of thousands of yearly visitors, but we are happy to put something else in the running for the top St. Augustine attraction.

While others come for the beach, we recommend the tacos – and we have lots of them. We have narrowed it down to our favorites from all the taco shops in the city.

Burrito Works – Taco Shop

table full of tacos

Any trip down A1A coming into St. Augustine isn’t complete without Tacos from the Taco Shop! Small and unassuming, the quality of the food here is unprecedented. Serving Tacos and burritos, quesadillas, nachos, famous tostadas, and burrito bowls, you have many choices at your fingertips.

You can order your spice on a heat scale from 1-10, and they offer the Kung Fu style (crunchy shell inside a softshell) for the best of all worlds!

With four Flagler Beach, Palm Coast, St. Augustine Beach, and Downtown locations, you can’t escape St. Augustine without a visit here!

Osprey Tacos

Osprey Tacos has only recently opened up in St. Augustine, but this casual eatery has raised the bar. Osprey Tacos is simple on the surface. There’s an outdoor deck (located conveniently next to a new alehouse). There’s a small indoor counter, used more as a waiting space than a dining area. And then there’s the taco wall with about 20 different taco types encouraged for all to see.

The rest is up to you. Taco highlights include the Crispy Tofu, the Baja Fish, steak, and pork. The tacos are stuffed full, and you will be hard-pressed even to finish two. The prices range from the simple concoctions of beans and rice for $3 or the fish for $5. Mondays celebrate Osprey Taco Day- buy one get one free on most tacos.

Osprey Tacos adds a new daily taco treat to the menu every day. Though it is often a vegetarian taco, they have used seemingly any combination to make the daily option special and peculiar.

They are closed on Tuesdays but open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all other days (9 p.m. on Saturdays).

Mango Mango’s

Mango Mango’s can’t be missed as you head along the beach on the lookout for some of the city’s top tacos. Mango Mango’s has a bold bar top, a small outdoor patio, and great cocktail deals.

They also have some life-changingly good tacos. The best may be Trevor’s Chipotle Shrimp Tacos. They are filled with seasoned shrimp, lettuce, tomatoes, caramelized onions, and a two cheese blend.

Mango Mango’s has five main taco types, and they all come in pairs of two. The Jerk Tuna Tacos and the Barramundi Tacos offer something different from the traditional taco fare. Request “Mang Mang” sauce on any tacos for that extra special Mango Mango kick.

The restaurant is located extremely close to our St. Augustine vacation rentals. You don’t have to head across the bridge and into town for an afternoon get-together over food.

Though Mango Mango’s does not exclusively offer tacos, it is widely considered their highlight. To top it off, you get instant access to the beach. You can theoretically order tasty food to go, walk across the dunes, and snack on tacos while overlooking the Atlantic. What better way to enjoy an afternoon.

Nalu’s

Nalu’s is a food truck, but don’t let that stop you. Nalu’s has some of the busiest afternoons in the entire city, with lines wrapping around the block.

This iconic St. Augustine favorite has been parked outside the famous Surf Station for over eight years. It is hard to tell why they don’t have a proper restaurant location, but perhaps this is part of the charm and appeal.

If they did, they would put competitors out of business. When available, Nalu’s loads up their taco offerings with fresh ingredients, locally-sourced vegetables and fish, and organic ingredients.

Order seasonal fish when available, including grouper or triggerfish. Also, check out pork, steak, and shrimp tacos in various styles. There are about 20 different items available, but you can adjust and customize them as needed.

The result is a taco experience. You will find Nalu’s open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesdays to Sundays, closed Mondays, and open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays.
